Nigerian AI Innovators Storm Google's 10th Accelerator: The Future of African Tech is Here!
Four Nigerian startups, Bani, MasteryHive AI, Regxta, and Termii, join Google for Startups Accelerator Africa's 10th Cohort, selected from nearly 2,600 applicants to drive AI solutions in fintech and communications. The program offers equity-free support and mentorship, building on the African venture ecosystem's $3.9 billion raised in 2025.
In a significant boost for Nigeria's burgeoning tech ecosystem, four homegrown startups – Bani, MasteryHive AI, Regxta, and Termii – have secured highly coveted spots in the 10th cohort of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program. This achievement underscores the nation's rising prominence in the African tech landscape, particularly in the realm of deep-tech and AI-native solutions designed to tackle critical infrastructure challenges across the continent.
The selection process was intensely competitive, with these Nigerian innovators emerging from a staggering pool of nearly 2,600 applications. This translates to an acceptance rate of less than 1%, highlighting the exceptional talent and innovative prowess of the chosen startups. Nigeria stands out as the most represented country within this pan-African cohort of 15 companies.
The three-month hybrid program, running from April 13th to June 19th, 2026, promises equity-free support, dedicated mentorship, and specialized workshops focusing on AI and machine learning. This initiative is crucial for growth-stage startups, providing them with essential technical infrastructure, cloud resources, and strategic guidance to prepare for subsequent funding rounds.
Driving AI Innovation in Africa's Financial Sector
The four Nigerian startups are primarily leveraging artificial intelligence to bridge significant gaps in Africa's financial inclusion and communications infrastructure.
- Bani: Building cross-border payments infrastructure to eliminate settlement delays for African businesses engaged in global trade.
- MasteryHive AI: An AI-native platform focused on automating transaction reconciliation, fraud detection, and anti-money laundering (AML) monitoring for financial institutions.
- Regxta: Combines alternative data-driven credit scoring with a hybrid digital-agent model to deliver financial products to unbanked micro-businesses.
- Termii: Provides an AI-native communications infrastructure, ensuring reliable delivery of critical financial messages, login PINs, payment OTPs, and fraud alerts for banks and fintechs.
'At Termii, we're building AI-powered infrastructure that ensures financial transactions don't fail, from login PINs to payment OTPs and fraud alerts. The Google Startup Accelerator is helping us accelerate our AI roadmap and scale globally, and even in the first week, access to technical support and insights has been incredibly valuable for our next phase of growth.'
— Gbolade Emmanuel, CEO of Termii
Market Competition and Funding Landscape
The venture ecosystem in Africa demonstrated resilience by raising $3.9 billion in 2025. However, Google emphasizes that for deep-tech startups, funding alone isn't sufficient; specialized technical infrastructure, advanced cloud capabilities, and strategic mentorship are equally vital for scaling solutions. The Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program, since its launch in 2018, has supported 106 startups from 17 African countries, with alumni collectively raising over $263 million and creating more than 2,800 jobs.
Folarin Aiyegbusi, Head of Startup Ecosystem for Africa at Google, underscored the program's significance:
'African startups are driving essential economic growth and social development. Our role is to serve as a supportive partner, providing these developers and founders with the technical infrastructure, mentorship, and global network they need to scale their solutions and amplify their real-world impact.'
— Folarin Aiyegbusi, Head of Startup Ecosystem for Africa at Google
This strong representation in Google's accelerator program positions Nigerian startups at the forefront of leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies to solve some of Africa's most pressing challenges, signaling a vibrant future for the nation's enterprise tech landscape.
